Pregnancy Loss
Ariel
I came to Angela after experiencing three miscarriages. When I became pregnant again, everything was progressing normally, but I was anxious almost all the time.
After what I had been through, it was hard to trust that this pregnancy could be different. I would wake up with my heart racing, worry about every sensation in my body, and feel panicky before appointments and ultrasounds. Even when I was told everything looked good, the reassurance never seemed to last very long.
I kept trying to talk myself out of the fear. Logically, I knew this was a new pregnancy. But my body seemed to be responding as if I were still waiting for something to go wrong.
Working with Angela helped me understand how deeply those previous losses had affected my nervous system. Through Somatic Experiencing, she helped me notice what happened in my body when the fear started to build, the tightening in my chest, the change in my breathing, the feeling of bracing for bad news.
Instead of trying to make the anxiety disappear, I learned how to stay present with what I was feeling without immediately being overwhelmed by it. That was a huge shift for me.
Over time, I became less consumed by fear. I could go into an ultrasound feeling anxious and still stay connected to what was actually happening in that moment. I slept more easily, felt more present with my husband, and gradually allowed myself to feel excited about the baby.
After three miscarriages, I don’t think I could have simply decided to stop being afraid. Angela helped me work with the fear in a completely different way and gave me the space to experience this pregnancy as its own story.
